Day 7 – Kingdom Driven

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:31-33

As kingdom people, our lives are supposed to be kingdom-driven instead of survival driven. That is the instruction that Jesus is giving us in today’s text. The Gentiles (those who do not know God) are driven by survival—what they will eat, what they will drink, and what they will be clothed with. We should be different: We should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to us.

Tim Keller once said, ‘When good things become ultimate things, ultimately good things become destructive things’. That is the danger of being driven by things, instead of the kingdom of God. Things are important, and Jesus doesn’t deny them. Jesus’ point is that there is much more to life than things. As children of the Most High God, we belong to a kingdom that is beyond this world. That kingdom is what our lives should be all about. Our heavenly Father knows that we need these things and He will surely give them to us. But they must never be the driving force of our lives.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be strongly motivated by your kingdom. Let your kingdom be my driving force, in Jesus name. Amen.

ACTION: List the things that may be distancing you from the things of God and begin the journey of kingdom driven life today.
