Day 19 – Kingdom Worshipper

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:22-23

Today’s text is taken from a conversation that Jesus had with a Samaritan woman at a place called Jacob’s well. The conversation went very well until, at some point, the woman entered into a mild argument with the Lord about how the Jews and the Samaritans worshipped at different mountains. Jesus seized the opportunity to lead her into the truth of what true worship is. He talked to her about worship in spirit and in truth.

Notice that the word ‘spirit’ is written in small letters, meaning that it is referring to the human spirit, not the Holy Spirit. If you read the word in context, you will realise that what it is talking about is what we may call attitude or awareness.

Jesus was saying that in the new kingdom order, worship is not something that we have to premeditate or go to a certain location before it can be done. Worship is an attitude that is driven by an awareness of a truth that has been discovered. Put differently, worship is a kingdom culture driven by our understanding of the truth of who God is. Worship is not just something that we do but, ultimately, it is who we are.

We are kingdom worshippers. We worship our King. Worship is our lifestyle.

CHECKLIST: Everything you do in the kingdom of God as a child of God must be done in the spirit and not in the flesh.
