“But if you will not heed Me to hallow the Sabbath day, such as not carrying a burden when entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.”
Jeremiah 17:27
Amazing!
Today’s devotional is a call to a deeper level of consecration to God.
The truth is, God is more concerned about your life than your work for Him. Surely, God might desire to use you mightily for His work on earth, but that is not the ultimate. Consider when Jesus called His disciples. The Bible recorded that Jesus called His disciples to be with Him first before He could send them out with fire and power (Mark 3:14). If these disciples go out with this fire without staying with Jesus first, the fire will burn them out.
Similarly, God is calling you to Himself, with a depth of consecration and burden. One major reason God desires consecration from you is so that His fire will not consume you. According to today’s Bible text, you could see that God said He would kindle a fire in Jerusalem that shall not be quenched.
Of course, you will agree with me that the Bible text does not mean the fire will keep burning forever. If it were so, then Jerusalem would still be burning till now. The unquenchable fire burns until everything flammable is consumed. This fire of God wants to burn in your heart till all that is not of God is burned out.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father Lord, let your unquenchable fire burn out everything that is not of God in my life.
2. Father Lord, I yield myself to your purging daily.
3. I decree and declare that I will never run out of God’s purging process.
