And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 16:17

In Matthew 16:15, Jesus asked his disciples ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Peter’s response to him was, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God’. Jesus followed up with three powerful statements that bring to light some powerful truths about the importance of revelation in the kingdom of God:

1. Revelation removes speculation: ‘And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven’ (Matthew 16:17). When God reveals Himself to you, He ceases to be a historical figure and automatically becomes a living being.

2. Revelation proclaims identification: ‘And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it’ (Matthew 16:18). In verse 17, his name was Simon Bar-Jonah but because of his proclamation that Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus gave Him a new name. When we break away from the lies of the enemy and see the truth by revelation, we discover our identity.

3. Revelation grants authorisation: ‘And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven’ (Matthew 16:19). Revelation grants us authority in Christ, which is healthy and productive in the kingdom of God.

These three statements of Jesus show us clearly that revelation is an indispensable factor for effectiveness in the kingdom of God. Receive revelation in Jesus name, amen.

SECRET: Pray that you will receive the kingdom keys that gives access to the secrets of God.
